Hi there! I’m trying to make jaguar cake pops for my children’s school because it’s their mascot. I was wondering how did you make the ears? And did you do a mix to get the outside shade of color or is that just orange?
Hi Jackie! How fun! I do believe those ears are chocolate chips that I dipped in candy melts and applied to the “naked” cake pop first. After that was set, I mixed the color – probably a light brown with a little orange and probably some white. I can never be sure. I just keep mixing until I get the color I want. I will typically have a photo of whatever animal I am making up on my laptop for comparison while I’m mixing color.
The outside of the jaquar is black sparkle gel for the spot outlines, eyes, etc. then gold sparkle gel for the inside of the spots. Make sure if you use sparkle gel that it has time to dry because it will smear and if it gets wet (from being refridgerated or frozen) it will be able to smear again then too. You could also use thinned candy melts to put on the black/gold for the facial features and spots.
